Book Early for Xmas, New Year & Songkran.

Don Mueang Airport. Not all budget airlines have moved to Bangkok Don Mueang Airport, e.g Tiger Airways are still at Suvarnabhumi. The car hire companies that have desks in the terminal are Budget, Hertz, National, Sixt & Avis. Sixt have a desk at the airport, but need check if arriving out of office hours.

Book Early for Xmas, New Year & Songkran.Phuket - Most tourists head for Patong Beach where Budget are the only supplier to have a depot other than at the airport, so the others deliver for a fee. Vehicles can be delivered around the island. Kata Beach is a quieter option.

Pattaya - If heading for Beach Road, Walking Street, or the quieter Jomtien, then Budget are best if want leave car when get there. Days on the local islands are well worth it. The Natural Beach Hotel by the sea, is handily placed and quiet.

Koh Samui - Get a Toyota Vigo, Single or Double Cab to explore the island from either the depot at Koh Samui Airport or later at Chaweng Beach.

The North of Thailand - See the hill tribes of Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, but care when going off road as insurance can be invalidated, if damage to the underside.

One ways in Thailand are usually free, depot to depot, but sometimes fees may apply depending on car hire supplier, length of trip and start and finish point. Budget are usually best for one ways, if rental over 3 days then no charge, followed by Hertz at 5 days needed. Sixt are now charging fees of between THB2, 500 and THB10, 000 for a one way, regardless of length of rental. Thai Rent are free if over 7 days.

GPS/Sat Nav - This helps make Thailand more of a fly/drive destination. However, like cars, Sat Navs do get sold out so always book early if want a GPS as well.

Delivery - Please note the time of day can also affect the price as overtime might have to be paid for. Best times are around midday for no fee.

Luxury Cars - Sixt have an upmarket range of cars, like a Mini Cooper and BMW range.

Credit Card Needed - The lead driver will need a credit card in their name. If you do not have a credit card, then nominate someone else as lead driver, who has a card, as they only have to sign for the car, and not be in it at anytime. In Thailand the hire car is insured and extra drivers are free.

Car hire in Khon Kaen, Thailand? | Yahoo Answers

There are some car rental companies around the Sofitel & Charoen Thani Princess hotels in Khon Kaen. I haven't rented a car there since 2007; I have a GF there now with a car, so that saves me the trouble. But I remember back in '07 I paid about 1,000 baht to rent a truck for the afternoon to tour the Thai countryside. This came with a driver, and you must pay for gas also. If you don't speak Thai, I'd advise you go with one of the larger companies or check those around the aforementioned hotels as I think they cater to foreigners and may speak some English.
